Tour over the Postalm near Salzburg

 The starting point of this almost 66 mile long, demanding tour, with 7133 ft in altitude, is Fuschl am See, at 2198 ft above sea level.

Right from the start we climb almost 330 ft in altitude gently uphill on the B158 and afterwards on a scenic road downhill to St. Gilgen (1788 ft) at the beautifully situated Lake Wolfgang.

Riding on the banks of Lake Wolfgang we reach the village of Strobl (1804 ft) and the ascent to the Postalm.

At first gently ascending, the narrow road meanders through the gorge of the Weißenbach towards the tollgate at approximately 2170 ft above sea level before the incline begins to increase significantly, with 9 % on average after we have travelled 16 miles.

Via nine bends, which are sign posted and provide an altitude reading, we reach the Postalm panorama viewing cabin at 4206 ft above sea level.

Enjoying a magnificent view we ride a constantly undulating road into the Lammer Valley via the whole Dachstein Mountain and into the High Tauern on the scenic Postalm road to the highest spot of this tour, the Lienbachsattel (4278 ft) and afterwards rapidly downhill into the Lammer Valley.

In Voglau (2067 ft) we turn right onto the B162 and follow this road to Golling-an-der-Salzach (1542 ft).

We continue on an almost even road stretch via Kuchl (1535 ft) to Hallein (1467 ft) and right at the roundabout to follow the slightly ascending Wiestal B-road to the village Seefeldmühle (1575 ft).

From here on begins the ascent to the last demanding part of this wonderful tour. Sixteen sweat-inducing miles have to be overcome before we reach Fuschl am See again, the starting point of this tour.
