Col de la Croix de Fer

We start this 47 mile long tour in Le Bourg-d´Oisans at 2395 ft above sea level and follow the famous stretch of the Tour de France  via the Col de la Croix de Fer (6781 ft) to La Chambre (1558 ft).

Firstly we ride on an even stretch of road towards Grenoble.

After approximately 5 miles we turn right and follow the road to Allemond (2303 ft) and a few yards uphill to a very beautiful reservoir , the Lac du Verney, which we will pass on the right bank.

Now we begin the steep ascent up to the village Le Rivier d´Allemont, at approximately 4000 ft above sea level, which sees climbs between 7% and 10%.

At the end of the village, we firstly ride a few s-bends downhill, in order to ascend the next few miles of steep hillside, with inclines of between 10 and 15 %.

Slightly further up, at 5249 ft above sea level, we now arrive at another beautifully situated reservoir, the Lac de Grand Maison , which shimmers  between light blue and turquoise.

Now follows a short and relaxing descent before we tackle the last few miles to the pass summit with inclines of between 8-9%.

We can now thoroughly enjoy the stunning panoramic descent to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (1847 ft) and the remainder of the tour to La Chambre (1558 ft).
