Lombardy - Passo della Presolana

The Passo della Presolana, situated at 4255 ft above sea level, north-west of Lago d'Iseo in Lombardy, was the scene of the 19th stage, in the 2004 Giro d'Italia. Coming from Bormio it leads, via the Passo del Mortirolo and Passo di Vivione, to the finish point somewhat below the pass (3914 ft), Presolana.

Today´s moderate, 33 mile long tour, which will lead us along the southern edge of the Bergamasker Alps as well to the Passo della Presolana, begins on the Via Provinciale, between Esine and Berzo Inferiore at 997 ft above sea level in the Val Camónica, Lombardy.

Firstly, we ride on a moderate stretch of road via Berzo Inferiore to Cividate Camuno and further to the Village Malegno (919 ft).

A sweat-inducing, 8 mile long but scenic ascent - with inclines of more than 6% - up to Croce di Salven (3636 ft) begins here.

After a gentle descent towards Dezzo di Scalve (2467 ft), we reach the road to the Passo della Presolana.

Over the next 2 miles, to Castello (2962 ft), the inclines do not exceed 6%. The remaining 4.5 miles to the pass cover more intense inclines, with values between 8% and 14%.

Having arrived on top of the Passo della Presolana at 4255 ft above sea level, we subsequently ride through such beautiful villages as Castióne della Presolana, Cerete Basso and Sovere downhill to today´s destination, Lovere (636 ft) on the beautifully situated Lago d'Iseo.
