Around the Chiemsee

We begin this approximately 51 mile long and relatively moderate tour in the health resort of Bernau am Chiemsee at 1775 ft above sea level. Here, ascents comprising 3146 ft in altitude have to be climbed.

We first ride towards Aschau im Chiemgau.

After approximately 2 miles and conquering the first small ascents we turn right and cycle on a narrow, quiet side road via a short ascent up to the hamlet of Spöck (2080 ft).

Enjoying a beautiful view over the Chiemsee and the Chiemsee Alps, we continue the tour via Kothöd, and, passing the golf course of the Chiemsee Golfclub Prien near Bauernberg, we reach Prien am Chiemsee.

The climatic- and Kneipp- health resort of Prien am Chiemsee is a market in the administrative district of Rosenheim in Bavaria with more than 10.000 inhabitants, situated on the banks of the Chiemsee.

The onward route leads us via a short and steep ascent to Riemsting and further to Breitbrunn am Chiemsee and Gstadt am Chiemsee.

The next village is Seebruck. Here, at the most northern point of the Chiemsee, the river Alz leaves the lake as an outlet and, after 39 miles, just before Marktl, opens into the river Inn.

We ride over the bridge of the Alz and shortly afterwards turn off towards Altenmarkt.
After approximately half a mile Trabing and Sondermoning are signposted.

Via Nussdorf im Chiemgau, this tour leads further to Wolkersdorf and Traunstein, the major district principal town and centre of the administrative district of the same name in the administrative region of Upper Bavaria. It is situated on the river Traun in the Chiemgau.

Just after the place name sign of Traunstein, we follow the signpost on a small side road to Einham and further via Marwang to Grabenstätt while enjoying the beautiful view.

In the centre of the village near the church, we turn left and follow a narrow side road for 3.7 miles. Still enjoying the Chiemgau Alps, we pass cornfields and pastures and come to Bergen, a lovely health-resort at the foot of the 5459 ft high Hochfelln.

There are approximately 10 miles to go on an almost level stretch of road until we reach Bernau the starting point of this very beautiful tour.
