The starting point of this approximately 36 mile long and demanding tour is the Tyrol county seat of Imst in the upper Inn Valley. It is situated at 2713 ft above sea level on the edge of the Lechtal Alps.
Once in the village the road begins to ascend by 14% before becoming flatter, but not before we pass a scenic forest and a meadow landscape with a view of the Ötzal Alps beyond Imst.
The further ascents to the pass are situated along a rocky passage which features gradients ranging from 14 to 15%. There are climbs to be overcome over 8.7 miles with an average gradient of 8%.
Afterwards, the road briefly becomes flatter before the next, seemingly endless, steep stretch awaits us.
After rising 3596 ft in altitude up to the Hahntennjoch, 6214 ft above sea level, we can regain strength during the winding descent down to the Lech Valley before tackling the Gaicht Pass at 823 ft above sea level.
Upon reaching our target of Tannheim in the Tannheim Valley, at 3599 ft above sea level, we will have climbed 5003 ft in altitude.
