We start our demanding tour (approximately 37 miles long and with 5709 ft in altitude) on the outskirts of the village of La Chambre, in the Rhône-Alpes region.
The ascent on this optimally asphalted road has already begun by the time we reach the edge of Saint-Etienne-de-Cuines (1608 ft).
Now, on the following 13.7 mile ascent to the Col du Glandon Pass (6312 ft) 4833 sweat-inducing feet in altitude have to be conquered.
The first 7.5 miles to St. Colomban des Villards (3625 ft) take in many bends, the steeper of which are just below 10%, through the valley of the mountain river Glandon, towards the pass.
We have hardly left the village before the valley extends and offers a magnificent view of this marvelous mountain world.
Now the road becomes narrower and above all steeper!
The inclines almost consistently of over 9% - with maximum values of more than 13% - have to be overcome on the last 6 miles to the pass summit
Having arrived at the top we ride a few hundred feet gently downhill.
At the junction of the Col de la Croix de Fer (2.067 m), which is approximately 1.5 miles away, we turn right and ride downhill to the beautifully situated emerald green reservoir, Lac de Grand Maison (5528 ft).
Now we ride rapidly downhill before we subsequently reach the village Le Rivier d´Allemont after a short but demanding ascent.
On our way downhill we first reach the reservoir Lac du Verney, whose left bank we will follow and afterwards at the bottom of the dam wall our target, Allemont (2339 ft).
