Great Dolomites Tour

The starting point of this (as far as landscape and stretch of road are concerned) unique tour is the little Italian village of Molina di Fiemme at Cavalese in the Fleims Valley, at 2671 ft above sea level.

Over a distance of 100 miles, 15407 feet in altitude have to be climbed.

First we cycle many bends up to Castello di Fiemme (3068 ft) and continue on the Dolomite road SS48 until we come to Predazzo (3363 ft).

Now, a road sign points the almost 13 mile long and winding way to Passo Rolle (6496 ft).

Magnificent views of the enormous rock massifs of the Pala group with the protruding 10466 ft high Cimon della Pala known as the “Matterhorn of the Dolomites“ are the reward for the sweat-inducing climb.

The 27 mile stretch of the Passo Rolle connects the villages of Predazzo in the Val di Fiemme with Fiera di Primiero in Valle Cismon, one of the most southerly valleys in the Dolomites, in which we now cycle via San Martino di Castrozza (4879 ft).

Having arrived down in Fiera di Primiero (2346 ft), the way ahead leads us on a narrow and quiet side road via several s-bends to Mezzano (2116 ft) and Canal San Bovo (2487 m), the small northern Italian community in the Trentino.

Using the 5302 ft high Passo Brocon, via ascents of up to 11%, we get to Castello Tesino (2969 ft) and, further on, Strigno (1660 ft) and Telve (1798 ft).

Here, the more demanding, last part of this tour begins.

With inclines of up to 18 %, we ride on the 13 mile long climb up to the 6640 ft high Passo Manghen, the last and highest pass of this tour, after which, a rapid descent returns us to the village Molina di Fiemme, the starting point of this tour.
