Säntis Cycling Tour

The starting point of this beautiful late autumn tour is Grabs, a political community in the Rhine Valley, which is situated at 1526ft above sea level in the canton of St. Gallen, in Switzerland. 

On this 57 mile long tour, we must conquer 5951 sweat-inducing feet in altitude.

The first 5,6 mile stretch of long and narrow road twists and turns steeper and steeper up the Grabser Mountain to the main road at the Tobelsäge (2982 ft above sea level).

Via Wildhaus (3527ft) and Stein, (2743 ft) we continue to Neu St. Johann (2503 ft).

Here the 6 mile long road veers off to the highest point of this tour, the Schwägalp at 4265ft.

Urnäsch (2723ft) and Gonten (2959ft) are the next villages we ride through, before we reach Appenzell.

The village of Appenzell is situated at a height of 2559 ft in the Appenzeller region at the foot of the Alpstein-Massif, which is characterized by a hilly landscape with pasture land and scattered settlements. The world renowned Appenzeller cheese comes from this region.

The tour continues on a quiet side road in an easterly direction via Eggerstanden (2927ft) down to Oberried (1362ft).

Approximately 12.5 more miles to go, on an almost level stretch of road, before we are back at Grabs, the starting point of this beautiful tour.
