Tour across Franconian Switzerland

The starting point of this 83mile long tour, where 7907ft in altitude have to be overcome, is the Spardorfer Straße in the city of Erlangen in the administrative district of Middle Franconia in Bavaria, at 1001ft above sea level.

There is not much time to warm up on this beautiful day in autumn, because after just 1.9miles the first short ascent, with values of up to 17%, through the village of Marloffstein (12001ft), has to be overcome.

At the edge of the village the view opens into the wide landscape in the direction of Langensendetbach, Effeltrich and Kunreut, 7 miles away at 971ft above sea level, the next villages on this hilly stretch of road.

After a short ascent we then carry on cycling on an almost even stretch of road to Wannbach. Here the approximately 3mile long climb up to Moggast (1634ft) begins, where almost 656ft in altitude have to be overcome.

Now the tour continues on a quiet stretch of road through this beautiful autumn landscape via the villages of Bieberbach, Geschwand and Wolfsberg to Egloffstein (1476ft) with its landmark, the picturesque castle Egloffstein, which is situated on a rocky outcrop above the Trubach Valley.

Now a 17mile long stretch of road begins, on which short but steep ascents before Thuisbrunn, Neukirchen-am-Brand and Kalchreuth have to be overcome.

After a moderate and mostly low traffic stretch of road we reach another scenic 30mile stretch via little villages, such as Simonshofen, Stöckach, Kleinsendelbach and Marloffstein. Once more, we reach the city of Erlangen, the starting point of this very beautiful yet challenging tour.
