Product information "Arber Cycling Tour"

The starting point of this moderate, 55 mile long tour, with its 9403ft in altitude, is the climatic health-resort Bodenmais at the bottom of the Großer Arber (4777 ft), the highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest at 2260 ft above sea level.

Very shortly after Bodenmais the steep ascent up to Bretterschachten (3678 ft) begins and we have to overcome record inclines of up to 18 %.

The high road to Brennes (3379 ft) with its renowned sport hotel, which was formerly owned by the Prince of Hohenzollern, leads us alongside the tourist attraction Lake Großer Arbersee (3675 ft).

Now follows a relaxing and rapid descent via the villages of Lohberg and Lam to Arrach (1637 ft), where, at the end of the village, the approximately 3.7 mile long climb to the mountain inn Eck (2766 ft) awaits us.

While riding downhill to Arnbruck (1883 ft), which is situated in in the heart of the beautiful Zellertale (Zell valley), we can regain strength.

The Zellertal extends over a length of 16 miles from Bad Kötzting in the northwest to Bodenmais in the southeast and is an oasis for everybody searching for pleasant calmness in the fresh and pure forest air.

After a further 7.5 miles we reach the city of Viechtach, a climatic health-resort, which is recognised by the Government, in Regen, the administrative district of Lower Bavaria.
Attractions - among others - are the Crystal museum, the Great and the Little Stakes (this is a quartz-stone formation) and the Antonius-Chapel at the Little Stake.

The next 12 miles lead us firstly on a quiet side road to Geiersthal and afterwards further up and downhill on the St2636 to Grafenried, a part of the village of the Drachselsried community in the Zellertal.

The last part of this beautiful tour begins here.

Approximately 4 more miles, on a slightly ascending road, lie between us and our starting point Bodenmais.
