Arround Kulmbach

The starting point of this ca. 55 mile long tour is the confluence of the White Main and the Red Main rivers at Castle Steinenhausen, southwest of the beer town of Kulmbach, in Upper Franconia, at 958 ft above sea level.

Firstly, we ride on an even and low traffic road, via Melkendorf and Mangersreuth, into the town of Kulmbach and afterwards - overcoming an ascent of almost 19% - up to Plassenburg, with a beautiful view over the town.

After a short tour through the centre of Kulmbach, the route leads us further, via Heinersreuth, Trebgast and Schlömen, to the steam railway village of Neuenmarkt.

The next target is the tradition-rich, climatic health-resort of Wirsberg in the Franconian Forest, also called “Wirsberg - das Hochzeitsdorf im Grünen“ (“the wedding village in the country“). Here the famous German TV chef, Alexander Herrmann, runs the “Romantik-Posthotel“, which we pass further into the tour through this beautiful and scenic landscape, via Grundlitz to Marktschorgast.

Himmelskron, Ködnitz and Kauerndorf are the next villages on this tour before we reach Kulmbach again.

Once again we take a turn through the beautiful alleyways of Kulmbach and continue, via Gumpersdorf, to Lehenthal.
At the next junction we turn left and, via Höferänger, we reach Wernstein and Wenstein Castle, which is one of the prettiest castle buildings in Upper Franconia.

Mainleus, Gundersreuth and Katschenreuth are the last villages on this marvellous but nonetheless demanding tour back to the starting point - the White Main/Red Main confluence.
